PS Wall Panel Installation Guide
PS (polystyrene) wall panels are a popular choice for residential and commercial spaces due to their lightweight, durability, and cost-effectiveness—a superior alternative to traditional drywall, plaster, or tile. This comprehensive guide covers everything from pre-installation preparation to installation.
What are PS Wall Panels?
PS wall panels are prefabricated decorative and functional building materials made of polystyrene (a lightweight thermoplastic polymer). It is easy to move, has excellent thermal insulation properties, and is available in a variety of designs—with a variety of finishes, sizes, and styles to choose from, suitable for any indoor or outdoor project. Whether you are renovating a home, office, or commercial space, PS wall panels are easier to install than heavier traditional materials. Pre-installation Preparation
1. Wall Base Treatment
The wall must be flat, dry, solid, clean and oil-free. New/Rough Walls: Check for hollow or peeling areas; remove all loose material and repair holes with putty. Ensure the wall flatness error is ≤3 mm/2 meters. For damp areas (such as kitchens, bathrooms, and the ground floor), a waterproof layer must be applied first, and subsequent construction should be carried out only after it is completely dry. Old Walls (Latex Paint/Tile Walls): Clean the wall surface to remove wax or grease. For tile walls, roughen the surface by sanding—this improves adhesive adhesion. For latex paint walls, lightly sand to remove loose paint and create a better bonding surface. Uneven wall surface: For severely uneven wall surfaces, a layer of gypsum board or OSB board should be installed as a base layer first to level the surface before installing the PS wall panels.
2. Tools & Materials
Tools: Tape measure, laser level, utility knife, fine-tooth saw, glue gun, scraper, fixing clamps, sandpaper, protective gloves and goggles.
Materials: PS wall panels, special structural glue / no-nail glue, neutral silicone sealant, corner & edge trims, expansion screws, spare panels. 3. Layout & Pre-assembly Mark horizontal and vertical reference lines on the wall. Lay panels on the ground for pre-arrangement, start installation from corner or wall center. Ensure the last panel width ≥100mm for nice appearance. Standard Installation Steps (Adhesive Method for Indoor Use)
1.Cut the panel according to measured size, smooth the edges; reserve 5mm gap for sockets and switches.
2.Apply glue on panel back with dot and strip style; keep glue 20–30mm from edge, spacing 150–200mm. Full glue on edges, dot glue in the middle.
3.Align panel with reference line, check level and verticality, press firmly for full adhesion.
4.Leave 2–3mm expansion gap between panels to avoid deformation from thermal expansion and contraction; use special trims for inner and outer corners.
5.Fix panels temporarily with clamps within 24 hours before glue curing; clean overflow glue at once.
6.After full curing, seal all joints and corners with neutral silicone sealant and smooth neatly.
Key Installation Notes
● Keep wall moisture low; do waterproof treatment for humid areas.
● Place panels on site 48 hours in advance to adapt local temperature and humidity.
● Install horizontally and vertically aligned with uniform joint gaps.
● Avoid construction in high temperature or rainy humid weather.
● Handle panels gently to prevent surface scratches.
