Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC) is a new type of composite material developed rapidly in recent years. It is based on plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride, replacing traditional resin adhesives. It is mixed with plant fiber waste such as wood powder, rice husks and straw, and processed into boards or profiles through plastic processing techniques such as extrusion, molding and injection. It is widely used in building materials, furniture, logistics packaging and other fields. Among them, the boards formed by hot extrusion are called extruded wood-plastic composite boards. Wood-plastic composite materials take high-density polyethylene and wood fibers as their core components, which enables them to possess some of the characteristics of both plastic and wood.
The specific features are as follows:
Excellent processing performance
Because it contains plastic and fiber components, the usage of wpc is similar to that of wood. It can be sawn, nailed and planed, and can be operated with ordinary woodworking tools. Moreover, its nail-holding capacity is significantly better than that of other synthetic materials, and its mechanical properties are also superior to those of wood materials – its nail-holding capacity is approximately three times that of wood and five times that of particleboard.
Good strength performance
Due to the presence of plastic components, the material has a good elastic modulus. Meanwhile, the full integration of fibers and plastics endows it with physical and mechanical properties such as compressive and bending resistance comparable to those of hardwood. Its durability far exceeds that of ordinary wood, and its surface hardness is usually 2 to 5 times that of wood.
Weather-resistant and anti-corrosive, long service life
Compared with wood, wood-plastic materials are water-resistant, acid and alkali resistant, corrosion-resistant, and are less likely to breed bacteria, be infested by insects or eroded by fungi. Their service life can reach over 50 years.
Stability and decorative
It has good ultraviolet light stability and excellent coloring effect, and can meet the appearance requirements of different scenarios.
Environmental protection and recycling
The greatest advantage lies in achieving “turning waste into treasure”, with most of the raw materials being recycled plastics and plant waste. The product can be 100% recycled and reused, and is naturally degradable without causing “white pollution”. It belongs to truly green and environmentally friendly materials.
Wide source of raw materials
The plastic raw materials are mainly high-density polyethylene or polypropylene. Wood fibers can be selected from wood powder, chaff, wood fibers, etc. Only a small amount of additives and processing AIDS are needed for production.
High flexibility in design
It can be processed into products of any shape and size according to actual needs.
WPC board application widely, covering many areas:
1. Architectural decoration: exterior wall panels, interior wall and ceiling decoration, outdoor and commercial flooring, door and window frames, etc., suitable for damp environments. 2. Outdoor facilities: fence, walkway, flower box tables and chairs, gazebo trellises, etc.
