SPC Flooring Guide for Buyers: Types, Advantages, Installation
Choosing the right SPC flooring supplier is just as important as choosing the right flooring product. For buyers, factors such as product quality, flooring structure, design, installation system, production capacity, and supply stability all directly affect project costs and customer satisfaction.
This article mainly covers the main types of SPC flooring, its core advantages, and common installation methods. Whether you are sourcing SPC flooring for distribution, retail, or large-scale projects, understanding these factors will help you evaluate suppliers more effectively and select products that meet market demands and specific application requirements.
Main Types of SPC Flooring
SPC flooring can be classified according to its decorative effect, surface treatment, installation method, and actual application.
-
1.Wood-Look SPC Flooring
Wood-look SPC flooring is one of the most common products on the market. High-definition PVC film can reproduce the textures and colors of different wood species, such as oak, walnut, teak, and pine.
Common patterns include:
Oak wood grain
Walnut wood grain
Natural wood tone
Gray wood grain
Rustic wood grain
Light wood grain
Dark wood grain
Herringbone wood pattern
- StonegrainSPC Flooring
Stone grain SPC flooring uses surface films to simulate the appearance of natural stone, marble, slate, and other stone surfaces.
Compared with natural stone, SPC flooring is lighter and easier to transport and install, while still providing a similar stone-like visual effect.
-
3.Herringbone and Chevron SPC Flooring
For customers looking for richer decorative effects, herringbone or chevron SPC flooring is a good option. The factory can directly produce flooring with herringbone or chevron patterns. During installation, the patterns only need to be aligned and connected, which greatly reduces flooring waste compared with traditional installation methods. Compared with standard straight-lay installation, these special patterns can add more depth and visual interest to the floor.
-
4.SPC Flooring Planks and Tiles
SPC products can be made in either plank or tile formats.
Planks are commonly used to create a wood-flooring look, while tiles are more often used to simulate stone, marble, concrete, and other materials.
Different sizes of SPC products can also be developed according to the requirements of different markets and projects.

Main Advantages of SPC Flooring
- Good Waterproof and Moisture-Resistant Performance
SPC flooring offers good waterproof performance and is more suitable than many traditional wood flooring products for indoor environments with some moisture.
Because the rigid SPC core has low water absorption, it can be used in indoor areas such as kitchens, entrances, and commercial spaces.
However, waterproof flooring does not mean that the entire flooring system can be exposed to standing water or prolonged soaking.
During installation, the floor base layer, moisture protection, wall edges, expansion gaps, and click-lock joints still need to be properly handled.
- Good Dimensional Stability
The rigid SPC core provides good dimensional stability, allowing the flooring to maintain a relatively stable structure under normal indoor temperature and humidity changes.
This is also one of the important reasons why SPC flooring is suitable for renovation and commercial projects.
- Wear-Resistant and Durable
The wear layer protects the flooring surface and reduces the impact of daily foot traffic, friction, and minor scratches on the decorative layer.
With the right wear layer specification, SPC flooring can be used in ordinary residential spaces as well as certain high-traffic commercial areas.
- Easy Click-Lock Installation
SPC flooring is installed as a floating floor. The planks are connected and locked together through tongue-and-groove click-lock systems, without the need for large amounts of adhesive.
Compared with traditional wet installation methods, click-lock installation reduces the number of installation steps and improves construction efficiency, making it especially suitable for commercial renovations and renovation projects.
-
5.Lighter Than Natural Stone
Although the SPC core contains mineral fillers, SPC flooring is much lighter than natural stone and is easier to transport and install. SPC flooring also has better flexibility and is less likely to break during cutting.
-
6.Wide Range of Colors and Designs
SPC flooring is available in a wide range of colors, textures, patterns, and surface finishes.
Wood grain is the most common design, while marble, stone, cement, and various decorative patterns are also available.
Therefore, customers can choose suitable product series according to the aesthetic preferences of different countries and markets.
-
7.Easy Daily Maintenance
SPC flooring usually has a relatively smooth surface with a protective layer, making daily cleaning easy.
For residential and commercial spaces, routine cleaning can generally be done by sweeping, vacuuming, and using a well-wrung damp mop.
Strong solvents, excessive standing water, or highly abrasive cleaning tools are not recommended unless specifically permitted by the product instructions.
How to Install SPC Flooring?
Although SPC flooring is relatively easy to install, proper floor base layer preparation is still important for a stable and level installation.
First Step: Check the Floor base layer
Before installation, make sure the floor base layer is clean, dry, solid, and level.
An uneven floor base layer may cause the flooring to move or make noise when stepped on, and may also put additional pressure on the click-lock system.
For most projects, floor base layer flatness can be controlled within approximately 2–3 mm over 2 meters. However, specific requirements should follow the manufacturer's installation instructions and actual project standards.
Second Step: Prepare the Flooring Before Installation
Before installation, allow the flooring to acclimate to the installation environment according to the manufacturer's requirements.
Flooring cartons should generally be stored flat in a dry indoor environment and kept away from prolonged exposure to high temperatures, moisture, or direct sunlight.
Third Step: Plan the Installation Direction
Before starting installation, determine the laying direction and starting position.
The following factors should be considered:
Room dimensions
Door locations
Wall direction
Flooring pattern direction
Expansion gaps
Width of the last row of flooring
Try to avoid having the last row of flooring strips being too narrow.
Fourth Step: Install the First Row
Start the first row along a straight wall and connect the planks according to the specified click-lock method.
Expansion gaps should be left around walls, columns, door frames, and other fixed structures as required.
Fifth Step: Install the Remaining Flooring
Connect each subsequent plank to the previous row according to the direction of the click-lock system.
During installation, make sure the locking system is fully engaged while keeping the overall laying direction and joints neat and aligned.
Sixth Step: Handle Door Frames and Corners
When installing around door frames, corners, and other irregular areas, make precise cuts according to the actual dimensions.
The required expansion gaps must still be maintained after cutting. The flooring should not be installed tightly against fixed structures.
Seventh Step: Install Skirting Boards and Trims
After the flooring is installed, skirting boards, transition strips, edge trims, or other decorative accessories can be installed.
These accessories not only improve the overall appearance but also cover the expansion gaps along the walls.
